There is nothing quite like participating in a race. You train for weeks
(and sometimes months) beforehand to get in shape for the event. This allows you to work on your fitness which releases endorphines into the body which can elevate your mood. Participating in a race not only positively affects you but also your community because the proceeds go to benefiting a good cause.
Here are some upcoming races in and around Houston:
- Big Dipper Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk — 9/10/11 — This is the kickoff event for the 2011 Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Proceeds from this event go directly to the Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition whose mission is to confront modern-day slavery through education, training professionals and empowering the community.
- Toughest 10K — 9/17/11 — Proceeds from this run go to Bridge Over Troubled Water, a charity dedicated to providing support, safety and to preventing domestic and sexual violence.
- AIM For a Cure Melanoma 5K Walk & Fun Run — 9/24/11 — Proceeds go to AIM For a Cure, an organization whose goal is to increase support for melanoma research, to promote education and prevention among the public, and to provide melanoma resources to patients, caregivers are survivors.
